Bajpayee is the soul of the film and plays his role with utmost honesty. With a stellar cast, the director manages to put his message across grittily. The film also touches upon topics like caste divide, gender discrimination, patriarchy and deep-rooted superstitions. Centrered around guns, violence, ambush, battles and confrontations, the film is about crime and also the after effects that curse the perpetrators of violence. Shot beautifully across the barren valleys of Madhya Pradesh, the director, with this taut storytelling doesn’t waste time and stays on point from the beginning. The film tackles the subjects of salvation, morals and principles in the heartland of India. Singh’s gang comprises of Vakil Singh (Shorey) and Lakhna (Rajput). The movie is about a gang of dacoits headlined by Maan Singh (Bajpayee). Set in 1970s, Abhishek Chaubey’s Sonchiriya explores the ravines of Chambal.
